Installing Brakes
« on: July 10, 2006, 07:58:45 pm »
Things are rolling pretty good on my IMOW project and now I'm looking on installing brakes on the rear wheels.
Question: Which would be best to use, disc or band brakes? What size? Where is a good source to purchase? I've looked at the selection at Northern Hydraulics and a few places on the internet to get prices. I relize I'll need to fabricate brackets for the calipers or band anchors, which ever type I use, and probably cut key slots in the axel for the rotors or drums.
Thanks for any help,
Don

You don't "have to" use axle brakes like you do on prepared classes.... But it sure can help...

Band or disc on axle...either is better than tiny brake on tranny or transaxle...

Disc is definetly more effective, and a number of "kits" are becoming available due to the neccessity in prepared class's....but a "simple band on drum" would be easy to "rig up" on an IMOW...
