Vanguard v twin
« on: January 22, 2009, 10:06:54 pm »
Hey all,

Quick question on the 29 series vtwin (14hp).  I just received the longer rods and test fitted them in the block with pistons and crank to check how much to mill off the pistons.

My problem is that the crank end of the rod doesn't clear the bottom of the cylinder wall. The cap and head of the cap bolt doesn't clear the opposing cylinder wall.

Any one else encounter this problem in the past and what was your solution?

re you sure they are turned the correct way. Dots should be visible or facing the pan side. I done one several years ago but don't remember any clearance iussues. You want to cut .125 off the top of the pistons.

It doesn't look like there will be very much land on top of the first ring with the pistons I have.

Yea, I thought about flipping the rod over AFTER I posted this

If you have some calipers measure and see how much will left. I have some at work I can measure them tomorrow and see.

How much is a stock 14hp vanny worth? It does run but smokes a bit. Just wondering, got a guy interested in one I have and want to give the guy a fair deal.
