briggs v-twin needs a little help
« Reply #15 on: July 26, 2006, 08:37:12 pm »
George or anyone elsa that might know. I just started tarring down my motor to get ready to take to the machine shop. When i pulled the heads off there was something a little funny. It had 3 stamped still rockers and 1 aluminum rocker? whats the deal what is it of of and can i get some more it looks a lot stronger than the steal ones. I will be getting rollers in the future but have to ge the lower end built then add ons after i get back together. i will try to load some picks but the connect rate at the house is 24.2kb its hard to up load anything. one more thing the pistons that i have are larger then the stock ones they are wisco 71.90mm part #h46e2 9140 what is the stock bore can the sleeves be bored this big if not where can i get some sleeves to use these pistons. I cant tack them back the shop i bought them from has closed this has been a long project that is finely coming to a end.

Well the rockers you show are Vanguard rockers the aluminum are very early model and the steel are their replacements. Then they changed again in 96 for the last time. Pre 96 and post 96 are not interchangeable with out machine work on heads. You show a vanguard on the bike gave a intek model number which are you rebuilding. You Can get roller rockers at http://www.perkart.com/vtwin.htm they ain't cheap he makes em for early or late model vanguards.

No what I said is the motor on that bike is a Vangaurd, and the rockers you show are a vangaurd. Tbe model number you gave in an ealier post is for an intek both being briggs but far different in design. I havn't a clue what the pistons you bought are for. I am simply going by what I see and the numbers you gave. Did these numbers come of the shroud on the engine on the bike.
