Really Stupid Question For You:
« on: June 12, 2006, 07:39:06 pm »
We are new to this sport and are working on a tractor for the IMOW class. We just came across a 15 HP Briggs & Stratton engine but it is a OHV engine. Now for the dumb question: Does that mean that it also has a overhead cam? I know they are only allowed in the Stock class.

Thanks

No, the cam is in the block just like on the flat heads.

OHV stands for "overhead valves" ...Cam is still in block and push rods move rockers to open valves...

Compared to "flathead" or valve in block engine that which also has cam in block but works directly on valve stem to opening valves...

(Yes, they both have lifters or tappets riding on cam)..

Only "valve in block" (flathead) engines are allowed in IMOW...
