700 bushing discoloration
« on: May 26, 2008, 03:21:54 pm »
I tore my 700 apart today, and I noticed that the bushing on the countershaft (it would be the one directly behind the drive sprocket) was slightly discolored on the top portion of it....looks like heat. Trans only had one race on it, and the bushings were new. I mic'd the countershaft, and it has no taper and is not out of round. Due to this being the front bushing, and it being mostly hidden from splash lube by the input and countershaft gears is this something that is normal, or do I have a problem with this trans?

Thanks,
Ed

By the way, trans was prepped per George's 700 thread.

If its not wore simply add some good grease and reasemble.... I have had a few do that it was probably a bit dry initially, meaning it didn't have much oil impreganation....

Nothing is worn, the bushings were new , so I will go with a bit more grease and reasemble. It just seemed odd, because the other 3 looked new, and 1 was a bit discolored on the top.  Thanks George!

George, by the way, did you get my E-mail?
