Foote Transmission...pt2
« on: October 31, 2005, 07:06:19 pm »
Eariler (on the other board) I asked about Foote transmissions, and if they were "worth it"...at that point the concensus was no, not for prepared classes...

But that they "might/should" hold up to an IMOWs demands...

So the question now is... for a J/P mowchine...running at the same 9:1 ratio...limited (Goverened) RPM...still a "useable" unit...?

Asking cause that's what my (and daughters) current J/P mowchine has...being "lightweight" and limited, I'm thinking she should get thru a season with it...??

Secong question then, if we do use it...should we run in 3rd (3 speed) which turns a 1.5:1 ratio on the countershafts, or in 2nd which runs a 1:1 ratio on the countershafts (similar to 3rd in a 700)

Rest of gearing would be made up in pullys and chain sprockets...

Seems the "stock" chain ratio and trans gears are close to a 9: 1 in 3rd as is...

Yes it should and you should run it in the highest gear now if you do it in second or 3rd then you must lock out or remove anything higher, the rules state 9 to1 in the hioghest gear.

Yep, it's a three speed..we'll run in the high gear (3rd) so we don't have to mess with internals or "blocking" gears...

And should get close to the 9:1 with the "stock" drive sprockets and just a little playing with the pulleys..

Speaking of pulleys...any further developments on the "adjustable" billet units yet...?

We are still in the design process. We are working to see how far we can actually make this thing adjustable.

I never checked an A/P ratio or one of my bp ratios, my S/P though was 6.5 to 1 and yes thats turns of motor to 1 turn of tire. Everything being the same on my bp and sp but the sprockets I would say the BP was closer to 6 to 1 or even 5.5 to 1. That is something I believe I will checkout here soon. The B/P that is

Now the 6:1 or 6.5:1 are NOT regulated ratios in the AP, SP, or BP classes, but are good "starting points" to set your mowchine up...

From there you gear up or down "slightly" to suit track conditions, running surface, and length to get best power out of your engine...

In the IMOW, SS, JP, and RP classes the gearing IS going to be regulated AND checked...

IMOW is the only "national" regulated class currently, but a number of LCs (local chapters) are starting to run "pilot programs" in the SS, JP and RP classes..

ADJUSTABLE PULLY
« Reply #8 on: November 24, 2005, 10:37:19 am »
SQUID, I found an adjustable jive pully through grainger for my IMOW its probably heavier (and more expensive at $40.00 for a 4" with 1" bore) than the billet version but gave me adjustment from 8.5-9.5 and I was able to tweak the ratio right on the dot to 9.1
