The red wire (charging), does that need to have a diode spliced in?  If not can someone explain how the battery doesnt get drained while it is off.

This is a diagram I drew up, maybe it will help someone.  This is for a non points flathead with a tether and key switch.  If something doesn't look correct on here, let me know.  Thanks,

Yes it must have a diode or it will drain the battery.

Thanks George,

would that diode have to be in the purple wire going from the regulator to the battery then?  Also, I think my grass cutter has that wire ran through the key switch so it opens when off, would that work also?
