Vangaurd piston modification for arc "long" rods
« on: February 23, 2008, 07:23:17 pm »
I am helping a cousin with some machine work on his 14hp vangaurd. He is running it all stock without a governor so he bought the long arc billet rods for some insurance and longevity. I know you have to shave the pistons .100. Here is my question, the pistons he has are not dished. They have a bowl shape in them. It doesn't look like there is enough material for the required .100 removal. The 23hp I helped my other cousin build had a true dish piston in it. Pretty much just took the "ring" off from the ouside of the piston. Has anyone run into this before. Is there another piston he should use?

Thanks Dennis

Have you done a temp assy to check the deck height of the pistons? You think the ring land is too thin?
