light STOCK flywheel !!!!!!
« on: February 23, 2008, 12:27:57 pm »
I am working part time at a local Snapper dealership (since their mechanic resigned) and I was tearing down a 12 ohv engine for warrenty inspection and noticed the flywheel L@@KED differant. I borrowed it that night and had my wife go to wal marts china made products world and get a new set of scales. The CHINA made scales said 10.2 pounds in stock form. The model number of the engine was 219907  and type 0131.  The flywheel # is 693557 at $86 list. I will send pics to someone to post if they would for me as I forgot how. :bash:   This might be a good option for people that don't have $450 to invest in an aluminum type. OH !!  it uses the big steel drive on the starter. Put a 692592 fan on top for cooling ( smaller) and it should be really good. What IF I removed the magnets to save another 5 to 8 ounces and ?????                                                                  johnboy       jfoerg@hotmail.com

Maybe it's me but the whole China scale thing really confuses the whole story, or was it a question?

The Arc flywheel is more than just a lighter flywheel.  The timing is adjustable with that unit and it is top quality.  Will not blow apart.  We get what we pay for with flywheels. Just my 2 cents worth.

I would use extreme caution on this wheel......It is still made for a 3650 RPM motor. The ARC flywheel is the only one I know of  CERTIFIED to run at higher than stock RPM. Remember......It is for the saftey of yourself AND the people around you.

Gotta agree with MadNax on that one, this wheel definitely looks like you'd want a scattershield on there. While it is stock, and it is new, it just doesn't appear real strong the way it's cast. It certainly wouldn't take much of a hit in any of numerous places on that wheel to set up a stress fracture, therein creating a 6000 RPM bomb, just waiting to go off between your legs.

I sure was hoping that Don was still making the scatter shields. I would NOT run one above governed speed without one .  DON, can you still build them by special order?

Lot of work to fab one, and there simply isn't that much demand for them. Hard to tool for it, when you only sell one every 3 - 4 months. You can call Don, but I'm pretty sure he's going to say no. I believe Mike down at Acme Mower Sports also had one available when the USLMRA rule changed, you might try him.
