Engine wiring:
« on: June 06, 2007, 05:24:33 pm »
For a 20 HP V-twin Intek, with a Billet flywheel, I am at a loss as to the wiring required for this, and what harnesses, if any, are required. Obviously I am using a push button for starting, along with a kill switch.  If you are aware of the appropriate B & S  part numbers for this I would appreciate if you would include them with your responses. Thank you.

I've never used a wiring harness.  I always just run wires individually.  If you're using the nippo starter which I assume you are since you are running the billet wheel you run a wire from the spade connector or square connector on the starter to one side of your push button.  Then you run a hot wire from the battery to the other side of your push button.  Take a big cable and run from the bolt type connector on the starter back to the hot post on your battery.  As for the kill switch you ground the black wire to the frame some where and the other end goes to the wires coming off the coils.  Then ground the - side of the battery and you should be set.

What about the wiring of the two armature/magnetos? What should be done with these?

Won't be using them if you have the billet wheel....

Thank you. I appreciate your help.
Oops! I have to back track a minute.....It has been another very long day and I am afraid your response, Randy, blew right by me. You say I won't be using them, would you please elaborate? Thanks.

Billet wheel doesn't have the magnets in it, you have to run electronic ignition.

I assume by "armature/magnetos" you refer to the stator "under" the flywheel ...the charging system....as opposed to the spark coils..

If your using the billet wheel there is no room for the stator and it must come out... there is no inner ring of magnets in a billet wheel to run them, so they wouldn't do you any good anyway...

I think I have fallen off the deep end here.....I understand that the stator is not used. Now, maybe I am confused with nomenclature....the "spark coils" are what have the wire that connects onto the spark plug...correct? If i am correct, what else is needed for my application? (Please be patient....you are making come progress)
