A funny thing happened on the way to the......
« on: February 03, 2016, 11:36:49 pm »
Finish line.

Whilst racing last Sunday my mower decided to run well for the first few laps then run out of power and stall.
We restarted it by drizzling  fuel into the air filter but it would continue running.

When back in the pits we disconnected the fuel line to the carbs from the pump and manually filled the line, we then restarted the engine and it ran but the level of the fuel in the line never dropped, so we concluded it was a jammed needle valve ( our decision was supported by a very bumpy track, and the float was bouncing up and jamming the needle and I also tried to blow the fuel into the carbs without success)

I have pulled the carry apart, taken the float and valve out and tried to jam the needle by pressing it firmly with my finger, but alas every time I turn the carbs up the right way it drops out as it should.

I'm running the Nikki two barrel, the model with the square bowl and the complex casket.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers
Grant.

Sounds like a fuel pump issue to me to if you have to prime it to start it. Could be carb needs a good cleaning to.

Thanks gents

The carb was stripped and cleaned just prior to the race meet so I'm confident it wasn't that,
We checked the pump and it was working ok, the but that has me stumped is when we had a full fuel line yet the carb wasn't drawing it into the bowl.

Unless some foreign object had made its way through the the filter and pump and blocked the carb.

Thanks for your comments, I'll put it back together and give it a run.

Try without the fuel filter and see if problem is fixed. I have found many filters will not flow enough fuel and engine will starve after a lap or two
