Ec 700 tranny leaking
« on: July 20, 2015, 10:15:28 pm »
I bought a peerless 700 from ex a few months ago. Have only had one race on it. I put gear lube it and it's leaked ever since. It's leaking from around the output shaft on the right side around the brass bushing. I've tried siliconing it and it still leaks. Any idea what would cause this and how to fix it?

Thats not uncommon if you put more than 6 to 8 ounces of oil (basically just enough to cover pinion.

Filled up one of those 8 ounce soda bottles and poured it in.

Didnt know they made a 8 ounce soda bottle. It sounds like its over full if its leaking out that bushing sitting still. Under race condition its not un common to see seaping due to splashing around.

If it's not leaking a lot I'd just leave it.  A little extra won't hurt.

Some just leak.

Make sure the tranny is vented too.  It will leak once the oil gets splashed around and aerated and build pressure.

You but the the vent in the neutral switch location.  if you bought it from EC it should have came with a plastic plug in it.

THERE SHOULD BE SOME SORT OF HOLE WITH THREADS IN IT ON TOP, THEY ALL DO. USE THAT, USE A SMALL PIECE OF PIPE OR A SCREW IN BARBED HOSE ADAPTER. THEN PUT A FOOT OR SO OF HOSE UP OUT OF THE WAY.
