NEED VANGUARD HELP
« on: June 07, 2015, 12:35:29 pm »
I finally have my fxt finished with a 38 vanny, 20-23hp horizontal and am having a problem with the fuel pump leaking engine oil, the pulse feed was coming from the valve cover. While at the track I swapped it to run from the nipple on the intake. Now the engine looses power on top end and shuts off intermittently, so did the oil passing through the pump ruin it that fast? one practice? or is there not enough pulse on the intake? do I need larger line to the pump from the intake?
any help will be appreciated!

for some reason the horizontal seem to do that never had that problem with a vertical.  the pulse of the intake should be better if your running twin carb or 2bbl . single carb the pulse is not very strong

You need to clean the oil out of the pulse line and the fuel pump.

What pump are you using.

My guess is the pump is junk.

Thanks guys for the help, oem mikuni pump.
engine started running like crap, like it was starving for fuel so I pulled in and seen oil everywhere, turned out it was coming from the small filter like vent hole in the fuel pump.
does anyone recommend a better pump? I will continue to run it off the intake but I was wondering if the intake will suck air through the pump vent?

That pump is fine.   And use the pulse off the intake.

Your used pump is junk.  Get a new one.
