I Got a 20hp intek briggs for project, ideas?
« on: April 20, 2015, 07:48:53 pm »
Just picked up a briggs 20hp intek that the rod was broken so just gonna replace it and piston it allready had a new piston on that side at one point, it's going in my project non racer lawnmower, any info or ideas what to do to it would be nice. If I could find a cheap billet flywheel I would be interested. What is the max rpm of stock one? With the stock flywheel?

Do some reading in the Admin announcement section.

kinda dumb

Guess we can't answer.

The rules here are simple.  And easy to manipulate if you not building a race mower.   If you would of done some reading before posting you would know this.   But now that we know your not building a sanctioned racer.........

Long story short bub, if ya ain't building to race it, anything else just isn't safe. If it isn't safe, ya ain't gonna get much help in these parts. It ain't that we don't want to help, we just want to see ya headed in the right direction. Otherwise use the search function and get your reading goggles on.

So what if it's gonna be built totally to rules but not gonna race it and have fun with it,I can't get help cause it's "not safe" ? And if you wanted to see me heading in the right direction how am I suppose to do that when I don't get help in first place cause you guys just think it's a project and it will never be raced in future? Why can't I build a "race mower" and not race it but go have fun wth it and then maybe if there's a race nearby I could go take it on the track, but looks like I can't do that just cause it's a project and not a race mower I guess. So when you guys built your race mower you had to have the mower done first in order to post on here cause it's not safe and it's a project? Doesn't make any sense I just wanted some engine help but nope I don't have a race mower in order to ask this....

I will try and help.

Your in Minnesota.  There is a great group there.  There are races in your area.

You can't start with a v twin as your first mower.  So your best bet is to find a single and hit some races

Before you do anything you should read the USLMRA rule book 3 times.   The whole thing.  I say USLMRA because that is the club that is in your area.  And if you build to USLMRA specs you can race anywhere.

V twins are expensive to build.   I don't recommend starting out with one.

Your 20.  Your mom was still powdering your behind when I started racing mowers.

And I don't know what idk means.   Is that a word?

I know there is a group here in minnesota that's what got me interested in building this so maybe I could go race if I wanted. So why cant I just start with a vtwin right away, why spend money on a single and dump a lot of money Into that and then you want to go bigger then dump more money into a vtwin, can't I just start with a vtwin right away go big right away,I race snowmobiles all winter I know how to race and ride machines. And Ya I'm 20 should be happy I'm young and want to get into this.

A race mower is nothing like a snowmobile.

The only way you can start on a v twin is to test and prove you can handle it.

My experience is if you have a competitive v twin you won't be able to handle it as your first ride.

What is your budget for the entire build?   It isn't uncommon to get $4000-$6000 in a v twin mower.  To build a twin you can't go cheap on anything.   Front brakes are highly recommended, I wish they were mandatory.

You should go to a race and see what is up before you decide what class to build.   The singles are quite fast if built properly.  A good single will beat a crappy built twin.

Build it to stock, then fit it in your  project. Worry about upgrades once that bores you. ;)
