Topic: Need help Identifying Vanguard or Intek

A fellow racer bought a mower a few weeks ago.  The original owner told him the engine was a Vanguard.  Here is what is on the valve cover.   407777  Type 0121 E5   I personally think its an intek but I'm not smart enough to prove it.  Looks as if the tin could had been a Vanguard or is the valve cover of an Intek?  Just to clarify this isn't an argument between us at all just trying to get to the bottom of it.

Intek, the intakes are very different between the two motors.

Not Jim, but that stamp on the valve cover is enough.

So it is safe to say that the inteks have a 4 bolt pattern on the valve covers and the Vanguards have two in the center?

Yep,  2 bolt vs 4 bolt, and vanguard is an aluminum cover vs the stamped steel cover on the Intek.
