Browning H-Series Hub & Pulley?
« on: March 25, 2015, 12:37:31 pm »
I have heard of and seen some pictures of a what I was told is a Browning H-series Hub&Pulley.  What I saw looked like the hub "clamped" onto the input shaft of a tranny or an output shaft of engine for that matter and the pulley attached to the hub by two bolts.  This looked like a great setup rather than just a clip.  I have searched the web and came up with a Split taper bushing but I don't see how it attaches to the shaft nor can I find any pulleys that attach to it.  If anyone has any guidance or additional help I would very thankful.   Just for the record I need the hub for a 5/8"Ø shaft.

Bert might know.
I have Browning pulleys on the jackshaft of the mowers. But, they are a regular type with a set screw(s) in the hub, and are 1 peice.

Those are taper lock hubs, and as you tighten the chosen pulley onto the hub, it clamps down on the shaft.
If you quit when you're behind, you will never win.

Got any part numbers or places where I could get these?  I am still not seeing the forest for the trees as far as the pulleys go.  I guess where I not had a personal look at one or held it in my hands.  One thing I was told is that these hubs do NOT have to have complete grip on the shaft basically if you get 50% of grip you are good.

I should say expensive.   I believe I found what I've been looking for on McMaster Carr.  About $60 total for the hub & pulley.

If everything  is lined up ,the clip ( snap ring) will hold just fine. 3 years on 3 mowers never had a clip come off. If your worried make yet snap ring groove a little deeper and use a under sized snap ring.
