jackshaft vs non jackshaft
« on: February 26, 2015, 09:06:59 pm »
Ok IM running a stock mower class at my home track witch classes as AP-evertythimg but fx... IM running a 2 pully clutch assy (push/pull) an running from motor to Trans right.now an broke off the bottom of the case for the input shaft an was wondering if I could use a jack shaft setup (motor to shaft run pully, shaft to Trans run sprocket/chain) would keep me from breaking another case (running a 700 peerless) Ik some of the pros/cons to doing this but not sure if it will help with my problem I already have
Here is a pic of what it done to my last case

You need to support the trans case at the input. Or, I know of some who run a long input shaft, and support that at the end with a captured bearing.

Get a plate and bushing from ec and be done. Can make your own plate, but tough to get the bushing just right. Remember about parasitic drag.......

I was going to but I have almost all the parts to make the jack shaft and Ben laid off an don't have the money to by the plate an bushing off ec that's why I was wondering if it would take most of the force off the tranny shaft

You would be better off trading those parts for a long input and adding a support bearing on the end of it. Less frictional loss due to less pulleys and bearings. Imo...

All I can help is with these part numbers in: http://www.heymow.com/index.php?topic=25464.0
If you have some ability, dremel or die grinder, and patience, you can make a bushing to fit the input boss, maybe not as good as the ec, but still better than nothing. Just make sure it fits tight!

a jack shaft isnt going to solve your problem. once shock load is sent threw your drivetrain it can still bust the case. the bushing method is by far the best solution. worth its weight in gold  :woo:

this is what you want. trans case is more expensive

Probably bushing and support bearing being close to bulletproof, but the bushing is enough, likely break something else first.
