spindle breakage
« on: February 20, 2015, 02:04:45 pm »
I have seen lots of spindles breaking over the last few years.
What is or who has the best spindles to use.

If you make the spindle's yourself never use a grade 8 bolt, Welding on grade 8 will cause them to break over time. use grade 5 they will just bend.

If you make the spindle's yourself never use a grade 8 bolt, Welding on grade 8 will cause them to break over time. use grade 5 they will just bend.

Bulldookie......I make all of my own Spindles with Grade 8 bolts and support them where the shaft meets the hexbolt. My issues stopped after I started using grade 8 hardware. No, they will not break over time...Grade 5 will. We don't have the luxury of smooth Kart tracks like most of you  have. We have very bumpy grass / Dirt road courses where you spend half the time out of the seat and in the air.......none of the one's I have made, nor modified others, have broken. Grade 8 - 5/8 Bolt for Axle Shaft and 1018 A513 Mild Steel for everything else. ZERO failures on 12 mowers. Ties rods break before the spindle does.

I can make them any way you want Ed. 5, 10, straight or if you would like I can make them in reverse kpi

But then again you've probably done that by accident.
