BP's
« on: December 02, 2014, 07:49:37 pm »
Stay with me now. Sometimes I have to much time to think. I drive back and forth to work an hour each way. Sense the BP class is kind of dying off why couldn't you make a FXT chassis and use a BP engine. The engine would not be as open ruled as the FXT class and the chassis would be a lot safer at speed. A natural transition from the prepared style class to the FX style classes. The tires could also be the factor of speed, using lawnmower tires rather than Hoosiers or kart style racing tires. My thinking is you already have money in a engine and tires axle and brakes with all the things that go with running a good horsepower machine. It would be safer and cost less than a FXT, no dual carbs or racing clutches a lot of dyno time. Any thoughts?

Move to Wisconsin. We still have them.
They can take my over powered too tall mower tired v-twin from my cold dead fingers.
In fact, I want the supermod engine rules for the supersportsman. Why? Because I like to control something that cannot be controlled.

I like idea. BP's are totaly out of control with the power to machine ratio!  Or restrictor plate??

Yeah. IROC was so super cool and fun to watch. Similar to watching slugs race.

Those who deem them too unsafe or "scary" have the option to not build and/or drive one.

Why did the governed engine with an open gear ratio rule become a class? People were bored of governed engine with restricted ratio.

So, Lets create yet another class, to fill another void that in this case, simply is not there.

Fine. Make it happen. Then give me a class with an open engine rule. Ill strap a couple turf masters on a Saturn V rocket. Won't turn very well, but it will come off the corner good. And, I would drive it.

Where just getting started with the Bp class. 3 built last year and hoping for 3 more over winter. The power is awesome and we don't have any cart tracks at all so the grass and dirt racing is crazy ..

BP's are kinda like sprint cars, way more motor than chassis. Yes, they're hard to drive well, but at least you find out very quickly who has the skill and the cucamungas to be a real race driver.

From what I've read, supers are far easier to handle. Yup, they're fast, but so is I-90 through the Dakotas.  I have no interest in watching traffic on I-90.

Please forgive but I have been away from this for a while,…question fer yaz…
What is the major difference of an FX-T(MT) engine and a BP(Super sportsman) engine other than crankshaft orientation?
Agreed that the FX handles better and could be safer. But, It’s been my experience that, the faster you go, the harder it’s gonna hurt.

Due to increasing population and local construction, ( In the next year, Baltimore will touch Washington DC ) We no longer have the luxury of  “Kart” Style clay tracks. For the most part, they are all gone with the exception of one track, who will only run once a year.
With that being said, if we want to continue to race, I have to make due with what I have been provided with. Typically our client will provide large grass field, that can be found almost anywhere.
(We had over 14 racing events this year and had the opportunity to do more than 20 - I had to turn some away) So, for the past couple years, we have had grass road courses or a very small dirt oval.(300ft to 450ft) I am not sure how well the FX-T style chassis will do on these type of tracks(We have one FX-S), so we continue to run BP’s. Sometimes we may have an option for a large grass oval but it will not be smooth. A couple of our fellow Virginia counter parts brought up some FX-T’s and ran and older 490ft paperclip dirt track we had later this year(soon to be a strip mall). They had fun but seemed to run out, never got close to their potential.
…not disputing anything here, just letting you guys know our situation and seeking advice. We have little to nothing left other than what was stated above. Although the numbers are very low, we continue to run the BP’s since they seem to be a crowd pleaser. Typically we mix the SP, CP & BP’s. All are competitive on a small grass track. CP/SP’s get traction while the more powerful BP’s just slip, slide & drift.
I like what Ed Said “They can take my over powered too tall mower tired v-twin from my cold dead fingers.” I guess I tend to agree.

Thanks for listening.

Engine rules are more lax on the supers/fx. Induction/carburation is open. That alone opens up a whole new ball game.

MY THOUGHT IS WHAT YOU COULD CALL A "BP-FX" OR "FX-BP".  IF USE TURF TIRES YOU COULD HOOK UP ON THE GRASS TRACKS, AT LEAST ABOUT THE SAME AS THE BP. BUT WHEN YOU SPIN OUT YOU WILL HAVE A BETTER CHANCE OF NOT GETTING ON YOUR LID!

Al, with enough track time and determination, I could put a dozer on it's lid.

Also, what type of turf tire are you getting to hook up on grass? I want some.

When Ed is driving my twin on a grass track, especially a bumpy one, I tend to drink more beer.

SO YOU ARE THE REASON WHY THEY PUT ROLL CAGES ON BULLDOZERS!  LOL, TURF MASTERS RATHER THAN HOOSIERS! I DON'T HAVE ANY MAGICAL SOD HOOKER UPPER TIRES, BUT IF I DID I WOULD LET YOU TRY THEM OUT FIRST!
