Flat head crank bearing question
« on: November 25, 2014, 03:20:04 pm »
I am new to the forum and taking a vertical 14hp 400707 and flipping it to horizontal, making some breathing mods and a new rear plate to support the crank aft bearing surface and cam bearing surface.

My question is, I believe I had read somewhere on this forum that the 40 or 42 cube crank plain and DU bearing crank that he ball bearing would fit the crank?
Is that right?
Also I have gone over all my engine parts, some say 40 some say 42, I can not find anything on my crank to identify it, can someone help?

Oh and yes I have ordered Don's opposed twin DVD

Thanks

My buddy is doing the same thing but he's puting a avs pan on a non avs block. He's maching the avs pan out since its thicker and is putting a needle bearing in it. I hope this helps.

I DO BELIEVE YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING WITH THE OILING SYSTEM. WHAT CLASS ARE YOU RUNNING BECAUSE THAT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE ON WHAT YOU CAN DO. THERE ARE HORIZONTAL OPPYS OUT THERE YOU MY BE BETTER OFF TRYING TO FIND ONE.

This is for a special power project. Not racing.
The 14hp meets weight and power needed for my project.
It is a sling oil engine, and there are ac ball, and deep groove ball that will work
I was just wondering if anyone knew if Briggs bearings for the 12.5 or 14 (both use same parts different cranks and cam)
would fit the plain bearing cranks.

Thanks
