new from Maryland
« on: October 23, 2014, 12:59:51 pm »
I live just south of Baltimore Maryland.  I’m looking to get into Mower racing with My 11 year old son.  I know it’s a little late in the season but I think we could get a jump on next year.   I started just taking any old mower that was free or cheap and for now just getting them put back together and running.  I don’t want to really to make any changes until I find the right people to talk to about the rules in Maryland.
If any of the racing clubs in Maryland see this could you please drop me a line that I could contact you about the dos and don’ts of building a racing mower in this state.
I guess another question is this.  Right now I am just taking anything I can get my hands on, but is there anything I should keep an eye out for or stay away from.    I just got my hands on an older monkey wards mower just because I liked the way it looked, but from what I have read so far it might be too heavy.
I’m not looking to build a supper speed machine, I am really just looking at this as something fun that me and my son can do together.

Just got some new toys.  I will put them up here just as I figure that out.
I missed the last race of the year out here so that sucks but I hope to go to there next club meeting.  I know that one of my mower will be a JP for my son, just not too sure what I will be making for myself.

any advice?

From what you have there, a J/P or IMOW would be a good candidate with the addition of better brakes.
A GP or GPT requires a manditory "Prepared Frame".
We allow the opposed twins in GPT too.

Had a fantastic awards banquet tonight at Moose Lodge 658 Laurel MD.
Excellent showing of drivers and families'. Organization for the group is the best it has ever been and great news about some exciting new venues for 2015 with a National promoter. Already have multiple bookings for 2015 from a previous venues.

A big focus for 2015 is a children's class (our future)

Will be having a "Mini Pro / FX-Lite" build clinic in the near future.
4 New racers for this class....2 are female.
GP-T Class is growing even bigger that anticipated.

I would love to hear more about the child class.
Would the GP-T class be something I would be able to race in my first year?

I am trying to post a pic of what I have been up to for the last 4 weeks.   brand new baby girl 4 weeks old.
