anyone have a list of model numbers that tell what size cid/hp/flathead or ohv

The first two digits of the model number is your CID.  Horsepower rating isn't something that's consistent.  Sears may have put 12-1/2 HP where Lowes only put a 12 hp sticker for the EXACT motor.

This is why Briggs got in trouble.
There is a thread here somewhere that explains the numbering system for the Briggs engines.
