setup wanted
« on: August 07, 2014, 01:38:05 am »
my home track the straightaways are 75 FT long tight corners. I have 7 on motor 5 on tranny for pulleys, 13 on tranny and 40 on axle for sprockets. I am pulling them out of the corner. Now my question is, I have been asked to run on a 1/4 mile track with 330 ft straightaways. What would be good to run for pulleys and sprockets? Also I am going to try and make it to the all American this year which I have been told are 175 ft straightaways. what would be good there. I am running a modified 31 ci briggs single cyl. please point me in the right direction. thanks again

Try this website:  http://www.eccarburetors.com/technical_14.html  You will need to split your transmission and count the teeth on the gear sets.  I would think you would want to be between a 6.5:1 or 7.0:1 final.

Use the calculator and see what a 14 or 15 on the tranny gives you for a final ratio.

with a 15 it will be 6.70 final ratio, with a 14 it will be 7.18 final ratio. This is all in 5th gear. my 3rd and 4th are the same

For the 1/4 mile track you may even want a 16 tooth sprocket.  I would suggest getting gear sets for the tranny that would allow you to run all the tracks without having to switch the sprocket on the tranny.  You may find that with the right gears and sprocket in and on the tranny that you can run all 3 tracks by using 3rd, 4th or 5th gear.  I have done this with one of my mowers.
