What diameter rod would you use on a FXS steering shaft? 1/2", 5/8" or 3/4"
I have a bunch of old 5/8" rod but have seen ones with much larger diameters.

My steering shaft is 3/4".  Maybe overkill, but I like it.

Mine has a 5/8" shaft, over the engine, with 2 universals butted together - no problems

I have done both 5/8 and 3/4 and both worked well.

5/8 is plenty strong enough for a steering shaft.

Thanks everyone. Looks like 5/8" is what I will use. Now I have to find some 5/8 heim joints and a 5/8 universal.

Personally I would use 3/4 .058 wall moly, that's just me. And speedway motors sells some really nice u joints made by sweet racing that have needle bearings in them instead of a solid bushed type u joint. ALOT better in the end and they last a lot longer

Can get better quality u-joints for 3/4 for less money than 5/8 is what I've found and that was my deciding factor, as there wasn't much difference in bearing or shaft price
