V twin vanguard question
« on: May 30, 2014, 02:48:10 pm »
I have found a vanguard 18hp twin now I need someone who is familiar with these to help the motor looks great but you can turn it over by hand and it appears to have no compression or like the valves are stuck open, when u turn it over it by hand it makes no noise or anything, if I could get some help with this question would be appreciated, Jesse

SEE IF THE PISTONS ARE MOVING UP AND DOWN. IF SO THEN THE PROBLEM IS VALVE TRAIN. ;)

Pull the plugs and gently probe inside with a screwdriver as you slowly turn it over by hand. See if you feel the pistons moving up and down. If that checks out pull the valve covers n watch the valve train as you hand turn it.....that sould get you a good start on finding out whats wrong.
