transmission whine
« on: May 21, 2014, 09:33:09 pm »
I have a peerless 700 transmission. Its a fresh build, I just took the first ride on it today. But it has a loud whine. Is this normal or what? Its only powered by a little stock 28ci flatty

Some whine like they are coming apart, some do not make a sound.
If you set your shims right, then there is no issue there.

Every transmission I used in a mower had a whining sound and most others I've seen do as well. I wouldn't worry about it.

SOUNDS LIKE IT NEEDS TO COME APART AND THE MESH OF THE GEARS NEEDS TO BE CHECKED. IT REALLY SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING IS NOT LINED UP. PAY ATTENTION TO THE RING AND PINION GEARS. IF YOU DON'T SEE ANYTHING CLEAN THE RING AND PINION OFF GOOD AND USE EITHER A PATTERN GREASE OR WHITE GREASE AND SEE WHAT THE CONTACT PATTERN IS. IT SHOULD BE NEARLY FULL CONTACT, IF NOT YOU WILL NEED TO ADJUST THE PINION EITHER UP OR DOWN. DO REMEMBER ONE THING, STRAIGHT CUT GEARS ARE INHERRIANTLY VERY LOUD. THAT DOES SEEM ALITTLE TOO LOUD.
