Fuel tanks
« on: May 13, 2014, 11:25:58 am »
What is everyone using for fuel tanks, the standard mtd tank will no longer work for me. The tecumseh 35584 tank looks nice but I'm not sure if 2 quarts will be enough or not. But i need something around that size

I make mine out of C/S, usually can work a odd size to just about anywhere that helps me with weight. Pressure test with 2 to 4lbs of air and soapy water. Find a old gas tank off a car and use the gas cap (make sure it's vented) or weld a pipe coupling on it and vent from the fill with a small fitting and run a line out back away from the exhaust.

I have opinions. Usually, nobody wants to hear them however.

I built all mine out of aluminum. With all the weld in bungs and fill cap from the chassis shop I had around $75 in parts. If ya can't TIG aluminum then you'll have to find someone to do that part too.
I usually made mine so they held a gallon. On a 30 lap race with some of the cautions that always seem to happen I would use up to 3 quarts.
