Newcomer from Minnesota
« on: April 05, 2014, 07:56:27 pm »
Just wanted to say I have never built a racing mower before but am in the process of one now, mostly I have built mud mowers. are there any mower race's in Minnesota?
and if so can anyone help me with some ideas for something cheap but legal to the rules, I currently have a sears ST16 " No engine as I am parting it out", murray with 708 peerless transmission that goes to a rear axle I have locked " havn't tried this one out yet as it's in the garage" and a couple other MTD's I have for parts and an old Toro front engine rider with a 36" or 32" single blade setup kinda looks cool. don't know what to use for my base to build off of.

Here is a pick of the murray with the axle pulled out streching it a little which is how I'm thinking of doing it.

There is a great group up in Minnesota.   They are a USMRA chapter so buid to those rules.   You can find the rules on here under USLMRA races.   There is contact info on the US website as well.

You can't stretch out the wheelbase like you want.

We have a lot of races set up for this year.  Look up on Minnesota lawn mower racing association(MNLMRA) on Facebook or Yahoo groups. There are lots of good people who will be happy to get you going.  Where are you from in Minnesota?

I am from Aitkin, MN I will admit I have limited fabrication skill as I use mostly scrap from busted up mowers and other stuff, and my workshop is broken up between my basement and a tarp garage in my yard that hold most of my junk lol, thats what the wife calls it anyways, the main reason I use so much scrap is because I can't spend any money on parts new or used but only what I get free,  " Ya I'm Poor" lol but I do want to build at least one legal racing mower don't really care what class its in.

Talk to the guys there, they may have a local stock class you could fit in.

I am the president of the MNLMRA, give me a call some night after 5pm 651-235-0317 so we can talk.
If you plan on running with the USLMRA it is imperative that we have you build something that fits into our rule structure.

I see ATV tires in your picture which are not allowed in any of our classes, also stretching the wheel base is not allowed either.

Call me and we can talk more about all this.

Talk to you soon,

Robert Sparbel
