New phone ?
« on: March 18, 2014, 09:51:24 pm »
I need input. I am looking to join the 21st century with a better phone. I am looking at the LG optimus g pro. My carrier is AT&t, people are telling me all sorts of things. They say the apple is better than the android. But others are saying they liked the android. Opinions please, I am trying not to make the 18 month mistake. Just to make you all laugh my current phone is a tiny slide phone, the pics are the size of a large matchbook. Tell me what you think I can take it!! LOL

I love my S4 phone, and I went from a Blackberry flip phone to it.

I had a iPhone 4.   Just upgraded to the iPhone 5s.   Wife has an android phone.   I think a samsung something.   She hates it.   She has till August on it.   She is thinking about using my old iPhone 4 till her phone is up for upgrade.

I had that phone for 3 years.   Super reliable.   I usually kill a phone in 12-18 months.

My vote is iPhone.

The main deciding factor is what will you be using it for? (Other than a phone, of course) Some phones are better for playing games and music, while others are focused more on the actual phone aspect and ease of use

Should of mentioned that too!!!    My iPhone is a great phone.   Better than some of the cheep phones that I've talked on.

I have verizon and they give you so many days to return the phone if you don't like it.....for a fee of course.  Your carrier may have the same deal.

I have had both Apple and Android, I find the Apple more user friendly than Android.  I hated my Droid and have since come back to the iPhone 5.

I have the Droid Razer Maxx HD. The battery last longer than the iPhone. I have had for 2 years. Can surf the web text and talk during the day, like now, while at work, and I still have 82% battery life left as of now.  My .02. And it has a bigger screen than the iPhone. This message sent by my Droid while at work..

I have a Kyocera hydro. Not real fancy, but has a decent camera and surfs the internet just fine. It is military grade shockproof and submersible up to 3 '. I don't have it in a case and have dropped it a number of times without a scratch. I connect it to the shop wireless at work to not burn up my time, and stream heavy metal through Pandora in order to irritate my coworkers. I connect it to my radio with a cheap cord from radio shack.
Typing can be a pain due to big smashed up fingers, but that's the case on any phone other than the jitterbug.

Well there are marked differences in the manufacture quality of phones..... I find LG phones to be weak in signal strength in my area, Samsung phones I have used have a much better signal. Motorola work very well too. Iphones work very good.

There are large differences in carriers too. ATT&T in my area has spotty coverage, Sprint works great, Verizon (I just switched to them from 12 years with AT&T) works very good.

There is a difference in operating systems from Android based phones to Apple based Iphones. HOWEVER they do the same things.....IE:
The icon to get to your photos on the Android platform is labeled 'GALLERY' on the Iphone... 'PHOTOS'.... both do the exact same thing... allow you to view your pictures... if you get used to one operating system, the other seems odd.

So three things need to be considered.
  1. Which operating system do I prefer, Iphone or Android?
  2. Which carrier has the best deal, and the best coverage for my area?
  3. Which brand has the best reviews, customer service, reliability, etc.?

Smart phones are a combination of many things. Trying to package a lot of things in one space usually means something has to give. If I am trying to put the biggest baddest camera in a phone, maybe I don't have room for the best antennae......

LOL You guys are not making this easy! The LG phone I am looking at has a big screen, it is REAL easy to see. But the number one choice seems to be the I phone. What I am going to do is go back to the AT&T store and see what they can do for me. THANK YOU ALL FOR THE INPUT! If any of you think of something else let me know, this won't happen for a few more days.

IPhone 4 . It's free with 18 month contract. I get metal ,oil and drop it daily and it's still mint. Cheap case on it. I've had it for 2 years. :)
