How do you know it is spark knock? I was wondering what it sounds like or what is it doing? If it is timing you can check your timing with a degree wheel and a timing light to see where it is at,and then adjust it.I was also wondering, since I am not familiar with this engine,is it flat head,or OHV?

Its pretty hard to mess up the timing on small motors there is a dot on the cam and on the crank gear if those are lined up then the timing there is right and well on the fly wheel its keyed to its pretty hard to mess that up. Unless you sheered the key.

Sounds like you need more distance between your block and your head.

it is a flat head , timing was off by a couple of degrees my race partner says it better and now he is experimenting with it .
