Hey gang, I've got the fever. I was gifted with this mower from my neighbor which has already been modified.

I was wondering if you all could help me identify the model. Its an older craftsman with an 18 HP twin.

No markings that I can find in regards to the mower model number or the engine manufacturer.

Would anyone here know just by looking what I have?

Appears to be a Briggs opposed engine.

You never win a race by focusing on one aspect of the race!  Motor isn't everything, but you better have a good one!  Chassis too!  But remember, a driver can take a slow machine and make it faster!  I may not have/be the best of any of these but I'm trying!

I dig this mower, just trying to find out more about it. I like the look of it and the fact that it is a twin. Its been sitting for 5+years.

Does anyone make custom exhaust for it? See, I'm not sure exactly what motors to look up parts for?

Can you post a better picture of the engine, or give us a model number? Most of us fabricate our own exhaust. Some of us buy bends in kit form like EC distributing has for sale.

Yes, I will snap some pic of the engine shortly.

The previous owner flipped the front axle to the top, and scooted it forward about 6", effectively lengthening the wheelbase. Is this an advantage or disadvantage for oval track racing? I have theories, but why not just ask the experts...He was going to use it for pulling.

The flipping and the lenghtening might not fly with local rules. I know it wouldn't with national rules. The engine really needs a set of tins to help you any further than this, yep it's a Briggs oppy.  You can see where he added metal in to reinforce the hole left from flipping the axle, this is where the new axle should go.
