tapered bearing hubs
« on: October 06, 2013, 11:44:07 am »
has anyone tried the front kart hubs that use the tapered bearing on the outside? and does anyone know of a hub that implements 2 of the tapered bearing assemblies rather than just 1? it seems a waste to just put 1 in the hub, leaving the standard bearing to get beat and "crushed" when tightened too much.

While Ive never tried the tapered bearing hubs, the only way I could get much longevity out of front hub bearings was to put a sleeve between them. A piece of 3/4 .058 wall tube works quite well, then when you tighten the castle nut up, it doesn't pull the inner races together. And when tightening the castle nuts, as with any other wheel nut, they do not get "tightened!" Simply snug. I have always ran my castle nuts finger tight. Never lost one with the lock pins run through a castle nut either.

That's what I do also. I just cut the spacer till it fits snug.
