So hook us up with a better piston.

I don't mind spending money to win as long as it works.

Please include your results with said piston.

thanks everyone for your help.i believe it didnt have enough
piston to cylinder clearance.i found pieces of the piston in the oil
pan.i dont think that .002 clearance is enough.that would be .001 on
a bore if im thinking right.

Why run these pistons? They are not suitable for racing. They are prone to failure, from several differant causes. The service life is short and if the coating is damaged...which is  very easy to do...wil eventually gall itself to death in the cylinder. Now these pistons are not even close to cheap...why not spend just a few dollars more for a good quality aftermarket piston?    You will enjoy a much longer service life...and a performance advantage too.
I agree with Will on this one....(SHHHHHHH, don't tell him)

Bought new, the Briggs piston IS expensive! They are not a "performance" part and not held to the same manufacturing tolerances of a performance part! We are putting much higher stress on the parts than they were designed for.

I don't think it is so much that some people got some "bad" ones as it is that some people like Paul got some "Good" ones!
Small engine mechanics - How many engines have you seen with "bad" pistons? rarely! For their intended purpose, they work great!

WIth all that said - If your cracking one side of the wrist pin holes - then one of 2 things is happening - one side is weaker, or you are not loading them evenly?
Is the bore square to the crank?
Is the bore round?
How much end gap on rings?

Personally something is wrong soimewhere some how. I have run nothing but briggs pistons for years use em other motors too. Turn em 7000 to 9500 everytime they hot the track and never broke a single one. NOW I have seen them break there but they were kissing the head or hitting an improperly cut copper gasket. Somethis causing it for everyone of yours to do that. You have not gotten that many bad pistons in a row. And William, a briggs piston is good sure there is after market out there Ron makes em with the rods too. hard to get ahold of him though. But like I said I run them hard and never had any issues along with 1000's others.

I have run lots of them too George, have some brand new ones sitting there waiting on next engine....but It chaps my tailfeathers to pay so much for them when for very little more you can get a better piece! Problem I have is finding rods to match them.

Exactly, then by the time you have rods made wharts your cost then!!! Not so cheap anymore. Ron has em pistons and rods. Not so sure on the oppy but he has em for dern near everything else if ya got time and not in a hurry.
And I have seen the race pistons break also and have the same issues
