New shop toy, Sioux 650 Valve Grinder
« on: October 24, 2012, 08:52:00 am »
New shop toy I picked up, needs a stone and new cord but works like a charm.  Got it with a set of Sioux valve seat cutters and grinders for $100!

Looks just like mine, does your fluid work? Mine does not so I just use a oil can. The only thing I have done is add a ruby grinding wheel.

Haven't really checked anything else yet, waiting on the manual to come for it.  Just mainly looking it over and admiring lol.

That sure is an old girl, probably from the 50's but you can't go wrong with a Sioux. They are the cadillac of valve grinders (that the average guy can afford), and they haven't changed much over the decades . Mine is a little newer but I have one as well, I use it almost every day. You can buy precision adapters for the chuck to accept valve stem diameters as small as 3mm,  you'll need one to do anything smaller then 7mm valve stems, unfortunately they cost two times more then the price you paid for everything but when you are done you'll have a real nice machine. Cylinder head supply is where I got mine, you can get new stones and some fluid there as well.

I have an old Black & Decker Super Surface Valve Refacer 5/8 model N. I think it's missing some parts for the valve stem shortening. I wish I could get a manual for it.

Cool thanks for the info Ryan, I will check it out tomorrow.  I found a website that had a lot of old manuals on it but it is on my work computer, I will post it tomorrow Les and maybe it will have it.
