Briggs 12 or 17

I just got a briggs intek 17 with that weird balancer deal and i want to know if i sould us a flathead 12 brigg instead and if so what sould i do to beef it up

What were you going to use it in,as in what class? One engine fits the S/P class and the other engine would have to be used in the C/P or F/X class.
