 We have found that the verticals with super tight belts are braking cranks and on some of the vertical covers, I guess you call them pans, have know form of lubrication on the drive end. The cranks are seizing in the pans. A simple little grove cut into the bearing surface that are aluminum on the crank that does not have an actual bearing, seems to help stop a lot of crank failures.

Garry, are you saying groove the crank journal on the pto end where it rides in the pan, or the pan bearing surface itself?

I don't understand what you are saying. Groove the sump or the crank? Mine just did that this weekend and I have had it happen in another engine also.

Notch the bearing surface in the sump.  I think Rooster did that in the Oppy Oil Mod thread

I always thought Briggs cranks were supposed to break? Mine always did..... :lol:

I can tell you how 2 fix the 2 most common  problems on a Briggs..
Broken Cranks and Pulled rocker studs  ;)

However the biggest trouble Briggs Has no one can fix!
