Here is a loaded question, what is the prefered chain size when running a transmission/live rear axle via a chain setup?

I've seen part numbers for sprockets to fit the 700 Peerless such as:
7 tooth sprocket 786077
8 tooth sprocket 786047
10 tooth sprocket 786076
12 tooth sprocket 786095
15 tooth sprocket 786111

What size chain do these take?  I ordered up a new transmission today which has the steel input and bevel gears in it, but need sprocket and chain info.

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yup, it's a new one.  Getting it from Outdoor Distributors, http://www.outdoordistributors.com/  They have several different models, make sure to get the right one.  How do you do this?  From the very same site you can get schematics of all Peerless transmissions and transaxles and the part numbers even say whether the gears are steel or not.

At $150 it wasn't cheap, but to get a junker for $40, change to steel gears at $20+ each, maybe replace something else, you're over half way there and still have an old transmission.

An alternative is http://www.jointsystems.com/ they have a transmission for $90, but the input pinion isn't steel.  Yeah, I'll admit it, I've ordered both during a week moment, gonna take a while to pay off this Mastercard bill.  LOL

I'm going to get a transmission plate from George (Soon as I remember to measure what size I need when I'm at the race shop) and hopefully these will be the ONLY transmissions I'll ever need to buy, at least for a while.  This low buck racing is getting expensive!!!!!!!!!

For durability, and no hassle's all the sprockets you buy will come for a 41 pitch chain. But use a #40 chain on them. Pitch is the same but width and overall strength is much better. Never broke on in 5 years. I put one chain a year on my MOWchines. As far as race prepping the tranny's The only gears I change to steel are the input and bevel gears. IF the 5th gear is a 19tooth on the shift key shaft remove it and use the 20 tooth gear set. The 19 will come aprt over time of over driving. Other than that I have never had a gear failure or any kind. Or shift key failure either and I only use the 2 key safts on a 45 HP BP. Hope this helps.

You bet it helps George, your posts always do!!!!!!!!

The input gear and pinion are the ones I was looking for in steel already in the transmission.  As luck would have it, it also shows the 20 tooth 5th gear.

Used transmissions didn't seem to be jumping in my lap, and since I have always had crappy luck with anything used, I went new, and by following your advice, hope things last a long time!  Especially when you consider I'm throwing a lot less than 45HP at it!!!  The total extent of engine mods I'm planning right now is an aluminum flywheel, MSN ignition (these came as a package used) a little porting following Don's video, K&N airfilter, catch can, and freshen up everything else.  Now chassis, that's where we're concentrating our efforts for the most part at first.

Oh, I have some 25CI engines so I'll be using the head from one of those.  no cost there, but the heavy duty starter............

Just keeps getting cheaper doesn't it?  LOL
