Honing a V-twin:
« on: January 03, 2007, 07:46:21 pm »
Is this something a novice could do? I understand that using the count method of: one thousand one, one thousand two privides the proper time sequence for this.....One thousand one ( as you are going into the cylinder, one thousand two as you pull put of the cylinder. )

How many such strokes are typical to hone a cylinder?

Thanks

What I am doing is replacing the pistons, and was told that when doing so the cylinders should be honed. Give your advice on this, and what grit stones to use. Thanks.

For racing I would use a very fine stone move in and out and get your cross hatch in. If cylinders are in good shape I generally go by site roughly 10 passes 5 in 5 out.

Thank you, George, for that. The cylinders are in good shap, so what grit would you suggest be used?
