Bolt crank has removable essentrics?
« on: July 23, 2012, 01:06:17 pm »
Im currently rebuilding my 28ci (289707), reseating/lapping valves, port polish, and just a lot of cleanin. Im going to be ordering a billet flywheel, dogbone, ohv rod, cam before long but my main question here is, i thought only the cranks with the nut have removable essentrcs, yet i have two of the same 12.5hp 28s and both have a bolt and removable essentrics? I thought only the cranks with the nuts had the removeable essentrics? I was just wondering why these have it and if they'll be good to use for brass counters down the road? I only see people talking about the ones with nuts having the removable essentrics not the ones with the bolt. Anyways thanks, just been wonderin.

Any info will be much appreciated.
Thanks! Cody

That's the counterweight the eccentrics are the round things that that counterweight rotates on they come off separately from the counterweight usually kept from rotating by a dowel pen

Ahhhh ok thanks. I've always thought the eccentrics were the counterweights (still learning). Thanks for the help. I haven't been out to look but i don't guess i could remove these could I. Another quick question, the intake where it connects to the carb has like a tunnel in it, looks like its a vent or something, if you could let me know what that is it'd be much appreciated.

Tha ks again! Cody

you can still remove them, put in a lathe and machine off, drill the crank for new locating dowels to hold the brass syncro eliminaters on, and it's off to the races with a MUCH more reliable engine

Ohhh ok, thanks for the help guys. I think ill just end up using the billet dogbone for now, then later down the road find me a old 28 from the scrap yard for cheap with the right crank.

Thanks again guys! I was kinda confused but i get it now haha! Thanks!

I have had in my possession at one time 2  28ci cranks with a nut to retain the flywheel, but non-removeable eccentrics.
