Personally  I like 6's cheaper an smaller rotational mass.... like a lifted truck hard to tern those 38 swampers ..compaired to stock 31's

in less twin & need bite .....but no experience on twins

larger tires handle bumps better.
Smaller tires turn over easier.

In the prepared classes: Larger tires =higher center of gravity and smaller tires = lower center of gravity.

I ran 6's all last season, and the beginning of this season on a Super Sportsman.  Just switched over to 8's before our last race, and the difference is night and day.  My mower hooked up better out of the corners, and handled better all together.  I'm a light driver (150lbs) so I can use all the tire contact patch I can get.  With a heavier driver, It may not make as much of a difference.

6"s pro's
less rotating mass
Spin easier
Cheaper,
easier to get COg lower,
6 con's
limited tire size choice,
limited tread choice,
harder to get forwards traction,
feel the bumps more,

8's pros
many choices in tread and size
better forward traction
takes the bumps easier

cons
cost more alot more
harder to get cog as low as guys with 6's
and does take a bit more hp to spin them

In the prepared classes: Larger tires =higher center of gravity and smaller tires = lower center of gravity.

true but it can be over come though

i have seen this a few times on here and i still dont understand where the idea that you get better traction with a taller tire. Are you guys changing gear ratio when you go to the bigger tires? this is the only way i can see getting"better grip" with bigger tires is if you dont change gears to match the increase on roll out. on our winged outlaw karts they push 100 hp with the open 500 2 stroke bike motors and have no problem hooking up 6 in tires.

Yes you change the ratio. And your karts don't run on grass or extremely loose/sandy tracks.

Try this:  Take a 16x7.50-8 and a 13x6.50-6 tire, wet the bottom of both and press straight down onto a dry piece of cardboard.  You'll easily be able to see why the 8" hooks better, because the taller tire not only has a wider contact patch, but also a longer one.

6s are an advantage.  At the arma me nats I was the only super sportsman on 8 inch tires.  It was evident I hooked up better but I was definately at a loss seat height wise.   I've never ridden a mower with 6 inch rears but I'd like to.
