big heavy flywheel for tecumseh twin?
« on: May 19, 2012, 11:16:57 pm »
i have a tecumseh twin that i use on a pulling tractor. i love everything about the motor i have gone through the heads and put the 17 hp carbs on it. it pulls great all the way down the track but at the end it looses all its grunt. most guys that pull run real heavy flywheels like 25 or 30 lbs. by doing so it is hard to bring the rpms down and bog it down because of so much more rotating mass. ds anyone have any ideas of what i can do or know of where i can buy something to make it work. no one runs these engines to pull with but i love it so much i couldnt change. thanks for all your help

About your only option is to have a heavy billet steel wheel made to your specs. Maybe try running a heavier pulley if you have the room

any idea where i could get that done? or what about bolting a steel weight to it or another flywheel on top. i just dont want it to fly off at 5,000 rpm. that might not be too good

DO NOT BOLT ANYTHING to existing flywheel to gainweight. Absoutely too big of risk. YOU will need to find a machine shop willing to do this or one of the puller manufacturers of said flywheels and pay whtever the cost of having this done. being a one off piece expect it to be pricey. BUT it will be done right and you will not have to worry about an explosion and flying shrapnal from a bad pice or home made remedy.

There are 20# starter pullies out there that use wedge hub. I think lakota makes them.
