Does anyone know if you can use the retainer and 2 piece keeper on the stock intake valve that did not come factory with it?  My exhaust valve has it but the intake only has the 1 piece key hole retainer.

Also I want to put the exhaust springs on the intake.  I noticed that they are shorter than the intake plus the intake has a "spacer/shim" on top of the spring.  Do I need to use that spacer?

You need to move the lock groove up to the same place as it is on the intake valve. The retainer for the exhaust is thicker and will take up the "space" that the shorter spring will leave. That washer is more than likely the valve seal and I use it. I use new exhaust springs on both and they will hold up to over 6500 rpm which is plenty on the opposed. I'm from the school of using just enough spring pressure as necessary  and no more.

Lester,
When you say move the grove up, do you mean closer to the valve head or towards the end of the stem?  Also, if I increase the lift or get a cam from Don G, will the springs and retainers still work?

Dan

Towards the valve tip. And yes it will (he recommends single stock exhaust springs on both)
