How many of you are having problems with the head gaskets on thr 44" block bored to 49" + .020? Which head gaskets are in use?

I'd use the 49 and weld up the pushrod area.

Was at Sears a while back and just noticed a mower they had, it was a 49 CI intek that was rated at 25 HP.

He said 44 block bored and sleeved to a 49 +.020 which is legal. The head gasket area of the 44 gets thin near the pockets for the push rods. This area needs to be built up and machined down in order to get the head gasket to seal. Buy the head gasket for the 49 and you will see what I mean.

I would really like to know for sure if this is right. I have been searching web sites for over a year trying to find a 49 ci engine that was rated even at 26 hp. can anyone offer any insight to this.

I haven't found anything on the internet myself and most of the one's I've seen have been above 26 HP. This particular one happened to be a 49 CI intek. I've also seen a few 44 CI inteks rated at 26 and 27 HP.

Buy a 49 block and it works great. Worst thing that can happen is a 100K fine and 6 weeks off.

Don't forget...you also lose Owner's Points and it's not 6 weeks off...it's 6 races off!!

The owner pays the fine and the crew chief that gets time off...
The driver and team gets to continue on?
