front wheels: hubs vs. bearings

If you plan to have an ungoverned engine I would highly recommend using hubs and use kart wheels. The 3 bolt american wheels. Even using high speed bearings in the wheels isnt a good idea. Its not the bearings its the wheels that would be the weak link. I saw a nasty wreck last year from running stock wheels. If you do have your mind made to run the stock wheels at least put some bracing on the inner side of the wheel that faces the mower frame.

You talking about me Willis, I just had to say it. I can tell ya it is not a pretty site to see one lose a wheel and get throwed to the ground and then get run over. It does hurt. Alot

Marty is it a factory type wheel or a racing wheel of some type?

I've seen those Marty, Douglas makes them.  I see no reason they would hold up any different than the wheels and hubs most of us are currently using.

That's why I'm not running them. I'm trying to get them to make them in 6"

Our SS and PS class MUST run steel wheels (if stock then reinforced) and I run them (stock) on mine. If you use the bearing with the snap ring (I get mine at BMI for 2 bucks each) and don't over tighten them they will last the season. Same bearing that is in the kart hubs just has a snap ring. I was worried about the wheel wearing out where the bearing goes so I reinforce that as well. I have 2 sets of wheel/hubs that BMI sold many yrs ago for 25 buck a pair that were steel and still run them!
