Does any one have any tricks to making the 700 not leak oil from the input shaft? I have read and followed the build post from George twice but it still leaks with the oil seal. The shaft looks good, just didn't know if there was something else I could do? Thanks.

It could all be in how your putting the input shaft in. Also make sure the seal goes in straight.
How are you putting the shaft in? Are you sliding it up from the bottom or dropping it through the top of the case?

Before installingyour input shaft, take a finger or two full of disk brake bearing grease(h.d.) and pack it into the input "nose" part of the case smearing it in to the whole cavity. Then hold a finger over the input shaft hole in the case as you insert the input shaft through the case, Keeping as much grease as possible in the case with your finger. All my trannys and transaxles get done this way...no leaks.

The input shaft bearings are more than likely shot.

I have the same problem, I have two almost identical machines, one leaks after I put TWO seals in it (stacked one on the other) after four races, I have changed two pinion shafts, even the lower case, packed it with three different types of grease, changed the bearings over to wider ones, and yet the other machine has not leaked in over four years? When you find out, let me know!

If you have changed that many parts...you have an entirely different bottom half than you started with...must be the mowchine, not the tranny?
I have a chassis I cannot get a 700 to seal in......that's right, I said a CHASSIS!
I finally figured out the reason they were leaking & breaking gears was chassis flex.

I don't remember how I put the shaft in but at the time I didn't think it would matter....I have heard of two seals stacked on each other but have not tried it. I guess I will just keep trying, thanks guys for the advise.

When I said identical, that is the key, one is a clone, exact braceing ect. One never leaks, the other after 4 races.

They both handle the same, but it is possible it could be some sort of flex, thanks.

I have been having the same problem on my 700.  I am on my fourth set of bearings in two years trying to get it to seal.  I have done everything like you are suppose to do when installing the bearing and the seal but they just don't last.  I have even swapped input shafts with no change.  I am beginning to think the case is egg shaped or something.  I am using the stock belt tension spring at the stock length and the EC trans plate and bushing so it is not flex or to much side load.  I did think for awhile the end play was to tight not allowing any oil to the bearings.  So I removed the washer between the snap ring and oil seal but it did not help.  At least I don't feel so bad now seeing other people with the same problem. doh

This is normal for any transmission especially if you put more than 6 to 8 onces of gear lube in it and even more so if you put thinner oil in it.

To the original question, always pack the bearinbgs with grease and always put the shaft in from the pulley side meaning go into the oil seal first this keeps from cutting the seal lip when you come in the other way!!! AND yall keep in mind these transmissions are rated for 12ft lbs of torque input at best. Look at the size of the seal. NOW look at what we do to them. Its a miracle they even last a race... But there are some that will always leak regardless I have had a few too and its just part of it.

I guess we are asking a lot out of these trannys. I'm thinking of making a shield from the top side of the pulley to the bottom of the chassis so the oil is contained a little bit instead of going all over the place. Thanks for the help
