12hp OHV Valve Retainers
« on: October 14, 2011, 05:51:10 pm »
I was looking at this stock mower i'm fixing with the 12hp OHV. It chewed up a split lock retainer so i have a new one coming in. The actual round retainers on this have the "cone" or tapered portion pointing out toward the valve cover... not inward toward the valve spring. Is that right?   I am fixing this second hand. The first guy said the motor was "blown". However i had it running but the rocker stud nuts kept loosening and throwing off the lash.

If anyone has a picture of the stock valvetrain on one of these motors that would be great. The parts breakdowns never show it in real life.

The retainer should have the "cone" part pointing in towards the spring.
If you quit when you're behind, you will never win.
