THRUST WASHER?
« on: May 20, 2011, 12:43:09 pm »
I have been looking at a thrust washer I have and I know others have used them between the crank and the block.  Other than less drag, what are the advantages or disadvantages, also what do you have to do to install these (I assume remove material from the pan that equals the thickness of the thrust washer.)?
You never win a race by focusing on one aspect of the race!  Motor isn't everything, but you better have a good one!  Chassis too!  But remember, a driver can take a slow machine and make it faster!  I may not have/be the best of any of these but I'm trying!

My OPINION is.......I dont like a lot of tiny bearings that could possibly find a way out of their containment. The only reason I would use a washer is to remove end play in the crank. I have never seen a single that had a thrust problem. I would especially stay away from them in the high rpm range.

I was going to say....the biggest difference is if it isn't in there, it cant break...
