Just a thought for you guys and gals, the last two engines I got in to balance, the engine pulley was WAY out, they had been welded on and the weld threw the balance off so bad the intake and exhaust would loosen up very quickly. So far I have not found a stock unmolested pulley that was off.
Just food for thought, might save you some grief.

Tommy, what has your experience been with the machined EC pulleys compared to the welded type? I am refering to balancing only.

I was going to say being machined when they were designed they should have been balanced on the cad program that was used to design it. That way when they were cut on the machine they came already balanced.

I hav'nt had any EC pulleys come in yet. When something is machined, it is almost always spot on, USUALLY perfect, but it's always good to check. The ARC billett flywheels have been perfect so far.

Hmmm interesting to know. I FIGURED they would be real close since they were machined but like how some people come up with a 'theory' that they are perfect when they haven't had them, I don't buy into that kinda stuff. Thanks for your responses George and Mr. Daniels.

What would the point of putting the time into designing them and having to balance after they are machined???? Kill two birds with one stone with the cad programs available these days. So advanced you can see the weak spots before they are put into production. Also, no I don't own em I had better things to spend money on this year.

Do you have a guilty concious? I never once mentioned your name or made reference to you...there are other people that make the same theories and assumptions so don't get salty. I realize things can be 'engineered and machined to be perfect' but not everything is exactly spot on. I PERSONALLY wanted to know how close they were by somebody who actually balanced them. It was a simple question that the guys who balance stuff answered.

Nope just find it odd I'm the only one that posted on here with no prior knowledge with them and I was making a "theory". Seemed kinda fishy to me. Watch out I do have a pooping Rooster on my speed dial. LOL

No its just not the first time that the question of 'how balanced are the EC pullies' has popped up and I have never saw Tommy be around to answer it so what better place then here to ask him...as for the Rooster on speed dial, I got that too but I'm sure if you suggest 1 title, ill get 4 of his own in the next 2 days lol

Cad programs are only as good as the operator! Not saying anything at all about EC, don't take it that way. But just because something was designed in cad doesn't mean it is balanced. Only if the Designer took the time to design a balanced part!
Speed Dial only works if I answer the phone....
But I can tell you this about EC's pullies, they rock, and I have checked mine and it was darn near perfect!

Could you bubble balance a pulley to make it true?

I dont know about all that...I never heard of many people liking a bubble balancer for anything really..not even tires. I am told not to waste money on that, have them spin balanced. So I would say on a race application, spin balance would be your better bet.
