George - That is great picture of the carb in the post about the new parts post. Thanx. I noticed the crankcase breather behind it is fairly simple.
What are you using to go from the tin cover to the rubber hose?
Do you run that into a catch can?
I really appreciate the hep a lot!!

The breathers have a rubber grommet/hose on them we cut the elbow off and stick 1/4 fuel line in it. Most of the time we simply run it down under the chassis. We have went to a catch can on occaision.

Never have used anything. Never had any dirt sucked back into the block. Heck ran 42 races on a 12hp when I ran the wrong fuel and preignited and blew it it looked brand new inside. It blows more than it sucks. Now the V-Twins I run a small filter from Advane thats sold to go on tuner cars valve cover. 9.99. Comes in many colors and is K&N type construction wash clean and re-oil.

So on the vtwins you put the breather back on but run it to a overflow or puke tank with one of the little filters on top?  Similar to the one Squidd showed us in a  post made from PVC ;)

ARC makes them for the horizontals in the other motorsports. According to their literature its suppose to help in making more HP. Has anyone heard of development for the vertical shafts

I'm weighing the idea of a catch can for the twin on the Toro, if it starts acting up like the 12.5 did then I definitely will put one on there.

No I don not run a catch can on my V-twins. Never had one blow any oil. I simply put the filter on the end of the hose from the fractory crankcase breather. I don't recall ever running a catch can on any of my motors. Never had one blow enough oil to notice.

What are the benefits of just running a breather to having it vent into the carb?

with it venting to the carb you will get smoked out if it ever blows oil.

George,
have you ever tried running a breather into the header, like we do on race cars?  Fast moving exhaust gases creat low pressure, the crank case typically has higher pressure, (some blow by, air not moving fast like in the exhaust, mostly turbulent air which is by nature higher pressure than non turbulent air), so the crank case vents nicely into the exhaust and is pulled out.  This set ups works real well on race cars, of course only drag cars can use it as the road race guys have rules requiring catch cans.

No although I have considered trying it here lately just to see if it works as done with drag motors.

FWIW I have it on a street car, and it works well.  I get very little evidence of any blow by from the oil filler tube.  I use synthetic oil, and as you know, it will find leaks that regular oil won't.  The engine is an air cooled flat 6, and goes through a quart of oil in around 2 to 3 thousand miles.  Tells me that it has to be OK for results like that.  Of course, the cylinder walls were all finished with 525, then 625, then 825 stones and followed up with platue brushes, all on a CK 10.  They are plate honed and sized to bore size   -0.0000 to +0.0005.

Well my old dodge valve stem seals lets mine eat a quart a tank. Maybe I should vent it too!!! LOL Be best if I took the time and changed the seals. Nothing like a flattie though.
