steel tubing with bushings in it
« on: April 13, 2011, 10:46:36 am »
I need a piece of steel tubing with a .750 I'd bushing it. I need something made or a place I can buy them. I need one piece of steel 4 inches long and one piece 1 inch long both with .750 I'd bushings.

Does the bushing need to be all the way through or can it be on the ends? Is there a specific OD you need to have?  If the bushing can just be on the ends, a quick, relatively cheap solution would be to buy 3/4 I'd DOM tubing and get some 3/4 flanged brass bushings from TSC. For both pieces I would say you will have around 20 bucks at most.

The 4 inch long piece would work with the flange bushings. The other short piece i need would have to be a straight through bushing. I have tried regular tubing but did not think about the dom tube.

DOM would more than likely be available with a 3/4 ID. If not it could easily be drilled to it. The bushings from TSC...might be right at an inch long. I know they are close. I can measure when I get home tonight for ya and will post my findings.

Ok, I was a little off on the bushings. Overall length from outside flange edge to outside of the 'non flanged edge' is 3/4 inch. From the 'inside flange' edge to non flanged edge is 5/8. So it leads me to think, you could buy two bushings and put them both in the inch long section, then cut the part off that is left remaining outside the tube. Also thinking about TSC at the moment, I THINK they have non flanged bushings as well. If that's the case. I would imagine a 3/4 ID bushing would be 3/4 inch long. Hope this helps.

Rooster I'm trying to make a bushed pivot for my clutch pedal. But my brake pedal pivot is bushed as well and it pivots on my clutch pedal wich pivots inside a bushed piece of tubing wich will be welded to my frame. As long as the I'd is .750 the ending od doesn't matter. If that makes sense
